During the five-year period from 2020 to 2024, the Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico (GAP) projected an investment of 395 million pesos in the “General Manuel Márquez de León” International Airport of La Paz. In an interview for CPS News, the representative of this corporation, Miguel Cravioto Sámano, commented that as air transport concessionaires they make this type of investment every five years for infrastructure improvements and maintenance.
“They have already finished rehabilitating the margins of the commercial platform, the taxiways, and the formation of the safety strips of the runway. Much of the perimeter fence was fixed, improved, and increased in size,” reported Cravioto Sámano.
In the same way, a 2,500-square-meter base of the National Defense Secretariat (SEDENA) is in process, as well as the construction of new wastewater treatment pools, as well as the provision of new technologies to make circulation faster, and safer for passenger, for example, anti-return corridors and the acquisition of e-gates, devices that are responsible for reading passenger boarding passes. Miguel Cravioto commented that, with this, it is intended to maintain the standards of service.
“In operating in a way that the travel experience, the passenger is quite positive and that they remember it in this way, they not only remember it as a trip that they took at some point that was very cool, but they remember it, just from the airport”.
Regarding the origin of the budget used, it was reported that it comes from GAP, which has the concession of 12 airports in the country and two abroad. Therefore, in the case of La Paz, there was no budgetary participation by the state or municipal government to carry out said improvements.
