Hotel El Ganzo, in collaboration with Puerto Los Cabos, Centro Comunitario la Playa, Fundación Pablo, and the movements World Ocean Day and Planet Ocean, presents “Pacific Blue,” the first annual conservation forum focused on the education and awareness of the oceans, with a program that includes scientific dissemination accessible through art.
Planet Ocean is a movement aimed at civilizing scientific and technological solutions in ocean matters, to manage collaboration and investments. At the same time, it aims to make Baja California Sur a case study for research and economic development.
The event began on June 5th with a documentary night, followed by the “Gato por Liebre” Workshop with Oceana at the Crania restaurant located in the beach community on June 6th, discussing fish substitution and sustainable fishing alternatives for the destination.
On Friday, June 7th, conferences for children from the Community Center, the first being “Do Whales Like Poetry?” by Fernando Martín Velasco and the second, “Women Crossing Oceans” by the Oceanida association.
On Saturday, important topics such as “The Health of the Gulf of California” by Carlos Sanchez from UABCS; “Coral Gardening as an Alternative for Sea Restoration” by Jorge Cáceres; “Effects of Warming in the Gulf of California” and “Economic Development Through the Blue Economy,” among other conferences, were presented.
Also participating are the Mexican Association of Oyster Farmers, the Marine and Coastal Sciences area of the Autonomous University of Baja California Sur, and associations such as Climatic Rhythms, Northwest Sustainable, Espíritu Santo te necesita, Efecto Arena, Somos Océanos, to name a few.
The World Ocean Day movement launched a new multi-year action theme in 2024, “Catalyzing Action for Our Ocean and Our Climate,” due to the climate crisis the country is currently facing. World Ocean Day is commemorated on June 7th.
