The head of the Directorate of Traffic and Public Safety in La Paz, Lieutenant Rut de la Fuente Velázquez, reported that, within the framework of the municipal campaign against corruption, more than 10 disciplinary measures have been implemented against members of the corporation. These actions include the dismissal of at least two police officers who were accused of abuse of authority.
De la Fuente Velázquez stressed that these sanctions, although not a source of pride, are necessary to correct inappropriate behavior and send a strong message within the institution. “We have made difficult but necessary decisions. We want to make it clear that there are consequences when acts of abuse are committed,” she said.
The sanctions include everything from suspensions and arrests to definitive dismissal from office, as part of a strategy to ensure that the police are trustworthy and close to the public. De la Fuente also stressed that the Internal Affairs Unit is open to receiving more complaints, and that investigations will continue to purge the corporation of members who do not fulfill their responsibilities.
These actions, he explained, seek to restore public confidence in security forces and demonstrate that any act of abuse or corruption will be addressed seriously and fairly.
