With the change of administration in the Federal Government, new work criteria have been implemented in customs at various airports in Mexico. These changes have caused inconvenience to international travelers arriving at Mexican tourist destinations such as Los Cabos.
The representative of the National Tourism Business Council of Mexico (CNET) in Baja California Sur, Mauricio Salicrup, explained that the problem with customs is occurring throughout the country and there are even areas such as the center and the south, where there are also problems with immigration because South American tourists are treated differently.
“In Los Cabos, practically the only problem we have with the management of tourism is in customs, where criteria are being applied at airports that are not the same as before and that is causing some inconvenience in some way. We have not come to resent it at that level, but complaints have been generated. Complaints that are reported in the press and that somehow cause people to hesitate to come because they misinterpret the actions of the authorities”
The situation that prevails in the migration areas has caused a decrease in arrivals of South American tourists in Cancun, Quintana Roo; an area that functions as a bridge for the transfer of visitors to Los Cabos.
According to the CNET representative, this problem has already been raised with the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) and so far they have shown a willingness to improve the protocols and prevent complaints and annoyances from turning into a smaller number of tourists this year.
