Since 2020, the “alba protocol” has come into force in Baja California Sur, a mechanism that allows for the coordination of actions to search for and locate missing women and girls. In 2024, the incidence of search reports increased and Los Cabos accumulates more than 50 percent of the reports throughout the State.
The head of the Baja California Sur State Commission for the Search for Persons, Lizeth Collins Collins, announced that this year 74 search reports for women and girls have been activated in Los Cabos, which represents an increase compared to previous years.
She explained that the highest percentage of search reports is concentrated in Cabo San Lucas and that fortunately more than 90 percent of the missing women are located safely.
After a report of a missing person or their missing person, citizens can go to the State Attorney General’s Office (PGJE) to file a complaint when it is presumed that the incident is related to a crime, or to the State Commission for the Search for Persons to file a report. It is recommended to do both.
In these cases, filing a complaint or report promptly is crucial to finding the whereabouts of the person. In Los Cabos, of the 74 Alba protocol alerts that have been issued this year, 6 women have not been located.
