Los Cabos expects to increase cruise arrivals by 12% during 2025

For this peak cruise season, the Mexican Association of Tourist Cruises predicts an increase in arrivals nationwide of between 12% and 15%. This increase will also benefit ports in Baja California Sur, such as Los Cabos, La Paz, Loreto and Santa Rosalía.

Arturo Musi Ganen, representative of the shipping lines in Mexico, said that Los Cabos expects to exceed 200 arrivals this year, consolidating itself as the tourist destination with the largest number of cruise passengers in the country.

“February is an excellent month for cruise ship arrivals, we are in the peak season. We have the global number of arrivals, I think we will exceed 200 arrivals per year. We are going to have an increase in arrivals to Los Cabos, and this is interesting; like other parts of the country such as La Paz, Loreto, we have had arrivals as well, although they are few to Santa Rosalía and this is very encouraging.”

The increase in cruise ship arrivals during this season will also depend on whether the federal government approves the charge of 42 dollars per passenger who disembarks at a Mexican port during the summer.

If this measure is approved, it is likely that the target for arrivals projected for this year will not be reached, warned Arturo Musi Ganen, representative of the shipping lines in Mexico.

“Right now the market is waiting for the new tax that may be imposed in June, to see how the year can end. If it is not imposed or is removed, I believe that we will exceed 200. If this tax is imposed, it is possible that a decrease will be registered.”

For February, Los Cabos has scheduled 20 cruise ship arrivals, including four double arrivals, which will strengthen tourist activity in the port.

According to data from the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) of the Government of Mexico, in 2024, Cabo San Lucas positioned itself as the fourth port with the most arrivals in the country, reaching a total of 200 cruise ships.
