The federal government, through the Secretariat of Agrarian, Territorial and Urban Development (Sedatu), will implement the National Housing Program in Los Cabos, as part of the goal of one million homes nationwide. In the region, the construction of 44 four-story buildings is planned, totaling 17,400 homes projected for the area.
The municipal director of Social Development, Carlos Castro, reported that there is still no exact date for the start of the works, but confirmed that Los Cabos will be one of the first municipalities where the program will start. Currently, Sedatu, in coordination with the National Housing Commission (Conavi), the City Council of Los Cabos and the State Government, is working on the evaluation of properties to determine their viability.
“I would be lying if I gave you a date for the start of the work, but what I can tell you with certainty is that in the municipality of Los Cabos it will start here as President Claudia Sheinbaum mentioned. It is one million homes nationwide and it will start here. These 17,400 homes that will be built in this period will become a reality. At the moment, through a working group made up of Sedatu, Conavi, the City Council of Los Cabos and the State Government, properties are being analyzed to determine their viability.”
Sedatu, the agency in charge of territorial planning and urban development in the country, reported that in February, March and April it will begin construction of more than 50 thousand homes in 25 states, including Baja California Sur. For its part, Infonavit will deliver the corresponding architectural projects for the entity this month.
It was also noted that the construction of these homes must be aligned with the third update of the Urban Development Plan (PDU) 2040. However, to date, this document has not yet been approved by the Government of the State of Baja California Sur.
