Small plane crashes on San José Island in Baja California Sur; American pilot and passenger rescued

A Cessna 182 plane crashed on the beach of San José Island, Baja California Sur. State authorities confirmed that the pilot and a passenger, both of American origin, were unharmed and have already been rescued.

That the plane had taken off this morning from the port of Loreto and suffered an accident. According to the aircraft’s pilot, Bradley Reed, a 73-year-old American, he detected an engine failure, which is presumed to be the cause of the crash.

Both the pilot and another passenger, Ginger Nicole, a 44-year-old American, were rescued by a boat and taken to the nearby community of San Evaristo, across from San José Island, the point where the plane crashed.

At the scene, they received medical attention from emergency personnel and were transported to the city of La Paz. The aircraft’s crew members had apparently participated in the Norra Mexican 1000 race held in this region.
