The Attorney General’s Office (FGR), through its Specialized Regional Control Prosecutor’s Office (FECOR) in Baja California Sur, carried out an operation that resulted in the seizure of firearms and the disabling of a suspected clandestine landing strip in San José del Cabo, municipality of Los Cabos.
According to the FGR, the action was authorized by a Control Judge following a complaint filed by members of the Navy.
According to the investigation, the initial complaint alerted to the existence of a landing strip that was not officially registered.
The Civil Aviation authority confirmed that there were no records or indications of an airfield on the indicated property, which led the Federal Public Ministry (MPF) to gather evidence and request the corresponding search.
This procedure was carried out with the support of various institutions, including the Federal Ministerial Police (PFM), the Federal Forensic Expert Center (CFPF), the Secretariat of National Defense (Defense), the National Guard (GN), and the State Attorney General’s Office.
During the search, authorities secured the property that had been used as a supposed landing strip. In addition, four shotguns, 90 cartridges, and 40 shell casings were seized.
Subsequently, personnel from the Secretariat of National Defense proceeded to render the strip unusable to prevent its use for illicit activities, such as clandestine flights.
“Defense personnel proceeded to render the aforementioned strip unusable for clandestine flights,” the FGR statement states.
“The investigation continues to determine responsibility, once the results of the analysis of the seized assets and other investigative techniques applied by the MPF are obtained,” it concludes.
