U.S. consular representatives visited the Civil Protection facilities in Baja California Sur to learn firsthand about this season’s rain and tropical cyclone forecasts. The meeting also allowed for the exchange of experiences on risk prevention and to strengthen cooperation in emergencies, especially given the region’s vulnerability to hydrometeorological phenomena.
The head of the Undersecretariat of Civil Protection in the state, Héctor Amparano Herrera, reported that, within the framework of collaboration between the state government and the government of the United States of America, consular representatives from that country visited the state agency’s facilities.
Amparano Herrera indicated that this working meeting with Jorge Reyes and Ángel Cordero, consular assistants in Baja California and Baja California Sur, respectively, was aimed at learning about the forecast for this rainy and tropical cyclone season.

Authorities and private initiatives are joining forces to clean up and prevent accumulated trash from entering the sea.
This also includes strengthening the culture of civil protection with a risk prevention approach, as well as strengthening cooperation in the event of a potential contingency, he noted.
In this regard, the Undersecretary emphasized the importance of having collaborative mechanisms to mitigate risks for both the Southern California population and those visiting the region, since, due to its geographic location, it is one of the states in the country most affected by hydrometeorological phenomena.
During this event, public officials exchanged experiences and best practices, as well as the actions previously developed by the three levels of government and different sectors of organized society, through the State Civil Protection Council.
Héctor Amparano emphasized that strategic alliances will continue to be strengthened not only at the local and national levels, but also with neighboring countries, as it is essential that their fellow citizens, whether tourists or residents of the state, know the measures and protocols in case of an emergency.
