Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum made her fourth visit to Baja California Sur this Sunday, July 13, to address health-related issues. Sheinbaum was greeted with protests from IMSS-Bienestar workers and transportation workers.

Personnel from the Decentralized Public Agency (OPD) continue to protest over unpaid salaries, holidays, transfers, and the lack of supplies such as medications at the Juan María de Salvatierra Hospital.

It was precisely at this hospital that the President inaugurated the new hemodynamics room today, which will serve to treat patients with cardiovascular diseases in La Paz. In response to the protest, she assured that progress is being made regarding the medication supply.

“We had some problems with the medication bidding process because, once again, the pharmaceutical companies tried to be too clever. We were able to correct it in time, but the important thing is that the medications reach every corner,” she stated.

In this context, Claudia Sheinbaum guaranteed an extraordinary investment of 300 million pesos to strengthen and equip the healthcare system in Baja California Sur. They plan to reinforce surgical suites and improve the conditions of workers, as she announced in her speech.

Meanwhile, transportation workers demonstrated at the entrance of the President’s public event. They denounced harassment and arbitrary actions by the State Government’s Transportation Directorate, calling for the dismissal of the head, Martín Salinas.

In a brief meeting, Claudia Sheinbaum received requests from transportation workers, and the state governor, Víctor Castro Cosío, pledged to continue the dialogue with the sector to address the problem.

To conclude her public event, the President reiterated her commitment to investing in the construction of the “El Novillo” dam to supply water to La Paz, as well as the purchase of buses for the new transportation system and the rehabilitation of the Transpeninsular Highway. According to data from the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT), 100 kilometers of this road will be repaired this year.
