Profepa closes a hazardous waste collection center in Baja California Sur due to irregularities.

401

The Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection (Profepa) suspended operations at the “Diseltec” hazardous waste collection center, located in Baja California Sur.

The measure was taken after detecting multiple irregularities in both the handling of materials and compliance with the legal requirements necessary for its operation.

This action is part of the inspection and surveillance efforts carried out by the agency to ensure compliance with environmental regulations throughout the country.

Profepa Conducts Surveillance Actions

During an inspection conducted as part of ongoing environmental surveillance actions, Profepa personnel found serious deficiencies in the storage and treatment of hazardous waste, as well as the absence of technical and operational documentation essential to certify compliance with current environmental regulations.

Based on the provisions of the General Law on Ecological Balance and Environmental Protection, as well as the General Law for the Prevention and Comprehensive Management of Waste, and various Mexican official standards, the agency imposed safety measures and suspended activities at the site.

Profepa (National Institute of Environmental Protection) reported that it will closely monitor the case to ensure that the observations made during the inspection are addressed and that established safety measures are followed.

The objective is to ensure that hazardous waste management sites operate under environmental standards that protect public health and the natural environment.
