Tropical Storm Mario continues to move away from the Mexican coast, but its cloud formations will cause very heavy rains in Baja California Sur and Baja California over the next few hours, the National Meteorological Service (SMN) reported.

At 9:15 a.m. Central Mexico time, the center of the storm was located approximately 550 kilometers west-southwest of Cabo San Lázaro and 750 kilometers from Cabo San Lucas, both towns in Baja California Sur, with maximum sustained winds of 75 kilometers per hour and gusts of 95 kilometers per hour.

The rains generated by the system could produce lightning strikes and cause flooding, landslides, and flooding in low-lying areas. The expected winds could also knock down trees and billboards.

Therefore, the SMN urged the population of the Baja California peninsula to heed weather warnings and follow Civil Protection recommendations, taking extreme precautions against winds and high waves.
