Teachers and administrative staff from the School of Physical Culture (Escufi) protested outside the school, expressing their demand for permanent positions and benefits that would provide them with job security in Baja California Sur.
“The only thing we, the teaching and administrative staff, are seeking here is: positions for the teachers, above all; job security so they can have all the benefits we enjoy. That’s the main focus of our struggle, nothing more,” they declared.
The protesters placed signs on the exterior gate. Messages included: “This isn’t a whim, it’s a necessity; we demand equality,” “We’re stopping to be seen and to be able to work with dignity,” and “Respect for due process in complaints.”
The teachers also indicated that they had submitted a request to the State Government, and their concerns were heard; however, the process is still underway, and they are working to expedite it.
“Right now, we are focused on ensuring job security, that teachers have the security they need, that they receive the same benefits as those of us in positions of trust […] the teachers are on contract, and the staff consists of between 22 and 23 teachers,” they added.
Finally, it was indicated that there are between 30 and 40 employees in positions of trust at the Baja California Sur State School of Engineering (Escufi); most have been working under this arrangement for 15 to 20 years.
