The government of Baja California Sur and producers from the municipality of Comondú agreed to create the Santo Domingo Valley Horticultural Council, an initiative aimed at organizing the sector and strengthening its presence in national and international markets. The agreement was finalized during a working meeting led by Governor Víctor Manuel Castro Cosío.

During the meeting, strategic issues for regional agricultural development were addressed, including production reconversion, the utilization of existing infrastructure, and water management. The governor identified the collection, storage, and efficient use of water, along with plant health, as priority challenges.

Castro Cosío highlighted the favorable natural conditions of the Santo Domingo Valley for horticultural production, noting its suitable climate, availability of quality water, and sanitary conditions that allow for the cultivation of various types of vegetables. He emphasized that the region does not face significant limitations from quarantine or economically significant pests, which facilitates marketing processes.

The organization of the sector through the new council seeks to consolidate the presence of local products in the market and meet the projected demand for the next eight years, driven by the accelerated development of the southern part of the state. The initiative has the institutional support of the National Water Commission, through its state delegation, and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

These federal agencies will contribute to key aspects such as production reconversion, optimization of water use, and strengthening of support programs for producers in the region. The Santo Domingo Valley is recognized as the main agricultural and livestock area of Baja California Sur.
