The State Government will no longer allow road blockades in Los Cabos

Following the blockades that have been used as a pressure tactic against authorities this year in the municipality of Los Cabos, the State Government announced that it will “exercise its power” against those who attempt to carry out these actions.

During a meeting of the Los Cabos Early Risers Group, the Secretary General of the State Government, Saúl González, revealed that due to the impact on third parties caused by the recent blockades, both at the International Airport and the former Fonatur roundabout, the decision was made to no longer permit this type of demonstration.

“All those who are blocking roads, today the Attorney General’s Office, along with the National Guard, opened cases against them. So, on Monday, I spoke with the families and many people who have wanted to close or block roads. I asked them if it was a solution and explained the State Government’s reason for doing so: it will use its power against anyone who blocks roads.”

The state official argued that they will be engaging in dialogue with those who express their intention to block any roadway to prevent it from escalating.

“The idea is that we are inviting them to a working session before they block or attempt to block roads. We will use our power to keep the roads open.”

He emphasized that, as authorities, they will do whatever is necessary to prevent the blockades, regardless of whether it falls under federal or municipal jurisdiction, or the type of demands the citizens have.

It is worth mentioning that the protesters are using blockades as an alternative to get answers to their demands, since they have realized over time that peaceful demonstrations do not bring about significant changes to their requests.
