The community of water truck drivers in Cabo San Lucas denounced a water supply crisis stemming from the closure of wells, a situation that is impacting both their economic activity and causing water shortages for hundreds of families in Cabo San Lucas.
The workers in the sector indicated that there is confusion about the origin of the water they distribute. They clarified that they operate independently and that their work aims to supplement the water supply in Los Cabos, especially when the public system cannot meet the demand.
In this regard, they explained that they have been in contact with the National Water Commission (Conagua) to regularize their sources and gain access to legal wells in Cabo San Lucas. This would ensure greater transparency in the water truck service and reduce misinformation among the public.
Among the critical points are Well Number 5 and the Estrella Well, whose inactivity has intensified the water crisis in Baja California Sur. According to the drivers, the closure of these sources directly affects the water supply in neighborhoods of Cabo San Lucas that do not have a continuous water supply.
“The lack of operation exacerbates the water shortage problem the community is already facing,” they stated.
They also rejected the government’s attempt to control service prices. They indicated that water truck rates in Los Cabos depend on factors such as fuel, vehicle maintenance, and the availability of authorized loading points.
Finally, the transporters reiterated their willingness to engage in dialogue and emphasized the need for regulated, safe, and functional spaces for water distribution in Cabo San Lucas. They asserted that this would allow for a more reliable and transparent service in the face of the growing water shortage crisis in the region.
