Hoteliers report missed flights and complaints after blockade in Cabo San Lucas

Following the recent blockade of the Transpeninsular Highway, which paralyzed traffic for nearly six hours in Cabo San Lucas, the private sector has issued statements. The Los Cabos Hotel Association (AHLC) revealed that they received numerous complaints from guests and experienced flight cancellations.

The president of the Hotel Association, Lilzi Orcí, explained that both tourists and hotel staff were trapped in the resulting traffic jam caused by the blockade.

“We were in constant communication with the authorities and our partners. The impact was severe; it lasted many hours. It wasn’t just tourists affected leaving the airport, with some missing flights, but also those arriving. We received reports that everyone was arriving in a very bad mood, which is typical of the start of a vacation, and complaining to the hotel.”

The representative of the hotel sector explained that the blockade affected hotel operations, and while there is empathy for the protesters, the authorities must have protocols in place to prevent these demonstrations from escalating into blockades.

“This has always been the position of the hotel association. We understand the situations that different protesters are experiencing, but what we don’t want is for this to become increasingly frequent. Therefore, we are calling on the authorities to coordinate among the three levels of government, given the location of the blockades—whether federal, municipal, or otherwise.”

Orcí emphasized that the authorities must take immediate action to prevent the prolonged “hijacking” of the main roads.
