The Baja 1000 will start and finish in Los Cabos during its 2026 edition, marking a new era for one of the most renowned off-road races internationally, alongside the 2026 NORRA Baja.

During those days, Baja California Sur will welcome drivers, teams, and off-road motorsport fans who will participate in and attend the event.

Why is the Baja 1000 the best sporting event in Mexico in 2026?

This 59th edition will mark a turning point for “the grandmother of all races,” as the entire route will take place amidst the landscapes of Baja California Sur.

Jim Ryan, Vice President of Marketing and Sales for SCORE, confirmed the agreement with the Government of Baja California Sur and the municipality of Los Cabos for this destination to host both the start and finish of the race.

Although Los Cabos has previously hosted other events for the organization, such as the Baja Sur 500 in 2015, this will be the first time it joins the exclusive list of host cities for the flagship event of the World Desert Championship.

The race will take place from November 9 to 15, 2026, with a route that encompasses mountains, deserts, and beaches in the southern region.

This event is so significant for the peninsula that it even has a commemorative plaque on the Walk of Fame dedicated to this sport in the neighboring state.

What other off-road races besides the Baja 1000 are part of the 2026 calendar?

The Baja 1000 in Los Cabos will be the grand finale of a four-race season held entirely within Mexican territory.

According to the official calendar presented by SCORE International, the 2026 World Desert Championship schedule is as follows:

San Felipe 250: March 25-29 in San Felipe, Baja California

SCORE Baja 500: June 3-7 in Ensenada, Baja California

SCORE Baja 400: September 9-13 in Ensenada, Baja California

SCORE Baja 1000: November 9-15 in Los Cabos, Baja California Sur

This distribution ensures that the tourism and sporting impact extends throughout the peninsula for almost the entire year, reaffirming Baja California as the off-road capital of the world.

Why did SCORE choose Los Cabos for the 2026 Baja 1000?

The organization stated that the competition will serve to showcase the service infrastructure and hospitality sector of Los Cabos.

This area is expected to attract global teams and international motorsport figures, including Formula 1 and Dakar Rally drivers.

The State Tourism Secretariat and the Los Cabos City Council will coordinate the circuit’s logistics with SCORE. The project aims to position the area by leveraging its desert geography.
