‘Norma’ affected 30 thousand tourists in Los Cabos

Los Cabos, Baja California Sur (OEM-Informex).- Lilzy Orci Fregoso, president of the Los Cabos Hotel Association, said that nearly 30 thousand tourists who were staying in the member hotels she represents were duly protected during the passage of the Hurricane Norma.

“Some hotels have their temporary shelter certificates and followed all the action protocols during these eventualities, they report to us that there were no incidents,” said Orci.

Many of the guests left on Sunday, October 22, after operations were installed at the San José del Cabo International Airport, which had closed since 7:00 in the morning on Saturday, October 21.

The opening of the airport was after the Aeronautical Authority and the Los Cabos Airport Management carried out the evaluation of the possible damages caused by Hurricane Norma, determining that the conditions existed to restart air operations on Sunday starting at 07:00 in the morning.

Orci Fregoso explained that because there were still canceled flights, support was provided to guests through concierge and customer service, having direct communication with the airport to prevent guests from going out on the roads if their flight was canceled.

The hotel association also prevented guests from going out into the streets, where cleaning campaigns are already being carried out.

“Right now we are starting cleaning work in all the hotels so that guests who are at home and those arriving can enjoy their vacation. In the same way, we are cleaning the beaches,” she added.

On Sunday, hotel staff began supporting the cleaning days in the Josefina estuary for the water lily, because the estuary was opened, leaving a lot of water lily along the entire beach of San José del Cabo.

The same is being done on the beaches of the corridor and the emblematic El Médano beach, this beach being one of the most affected by the large amount of garbage that comes down from the streams.

He said that he also knows of other cleaning brigades led by elements of the Cabo San Lucas Fire Department and the Sanluquense Businessmen to clean all the mud and palm lifting that was left in the central streets. The objective is to have the environment in optimal conditions for the premises themselves and for those who visit us.

He recognized the work of the staff of the Federal Electricity Commission where the service has been restored in different neighborhoods, with several affected neighborhoods still existing until Monday the 23rd, as well as in the hotel sector. Likewise, they hope to reactivate operations of all drinking water wells in order to have optimal services in the municipality.
