Statistics published by authorities of the Ministry of Tourism of the Federal Government, reveal that Los Cabos is positioned as one of the three destinations in the Mexican Republic with the highest international air flow.
Taking into account the analysis of the January-August 2023 period, compared to the same period of a previous year, Los Cabos registers an increase of almost 10 percent in the arrival of foreign tourists by air.
The data presented by the Federation indicate that in the first eight months of 2023, the main tourist destination of Baja California Sur documented the arrival of one million 607 thousand 468 travelers via international routes, which represents 129 thousand 589 more than in 2022.
In this context, San José del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas are placed in third place nationally, only below Cancún and Mexico City.
In contrast, in a comparison that takes into account only August 2023 with the same month of 2022, the municipality registers a decrease of 3.9 percent in international air flow.
Given this, state authorities and the business sector are positive about any scenario that is approaching for Baja California Sur and its destinations.
According to data from the Secretariat of Tourism and Economy (SETUE) of the State Government, the arrival of national tourists has also increased by almost 40 percent in the last four years.
This increase is relevant when considering that in 2020 and 2021, the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Baja California Sur suffered a collapse, the second most serious after Quintana Roo, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi).
