Abierto Los Cabos: The ten best ATP tennis players who have been part of the tournament

423

In a very short time, the Abierto Los Cabos has managed to position itself as an attractive stop for some of the best tennis players in the world.

Since its first edition in 2016, Grupo Mextenis convinced great ATP figures to play their less important event even though it is a 250 category.

With some sensitive last-minute losses such as Dominic Thiem’s, the ATC has had great tennis players in its different editions, led by Daniil Medvedev and Stefanos Tsitsipas. These are the 10 most important ones who have delighted the fans in Los Cabos.

Daniil Medvedev

Country: Russia

Ranking: 1

Without a doubt, Daniil Medvedev is the best player who has stepped on the ATC. The Russian tennis player arrived in the summer of 2022 as the number one in the world and with a Grand Slam title in his record. As if that were not enough, he took the tournament very seriously and was crowned as the champion of that edition.

Stefanos Tsitsipas

Country: Greece

Ranking: 5

The Greek tennis player has fallen in love with the Mexican public and has put both Acapulco and Los Cabos as two mandatory stops on his calendar. The then #5 in the ATP ranking also fulfilled the forecast as the first in the seeding of the event and won the title.

Juan Martín del Potro

Country: Argentina

Ranking: 4

The ‘Tower of Tandil’ is one of the best players of the last era, and in 2018 he visited Los Cabos months after winning the Acapulco Open. The momentum and great form took him to the grand finale, although he could not stay with the championship.

Tomas Berdych

Country: Czech Republic

Ranking: 14

A Grand Slam finalist and who in his best times was able to face the ‘Fantastic 4’ practically in any scenario. Unfortunately for his cause, he arrived in Los Cabos in the last part of his career and lost in the semifinal round.

Grigor Dimitrov

Country: Bulgaria

Ranking: 20

Another of the great favorites of the Mexican public. The Bulgarian signed up for the 2019 edition, a year in which he was not going through his best moment. He did not arrive among the seeds and he could barely pass a round, but his excellent backhand game delighted the public of Baja California.

REST OF THE TOP-10

The Italian Fabio Fognini occupies one of the places of honor, with his presence in 2018 and 2019, where he won a title and in the defense of his championship he finished in the quarterfinals.

Taylor Fritz has also been one of the most outstanding players in Los Cabos, playing the editions of 2018, 2019 and 2021.

The British Cameron Norrie grows in Mexico. He won the title in 2021 and lost the final a year later.

Other young and talented tennis players such as the Canadian Félix Auger-Aliassime and the Australian Alex de Miñaur are also part of the history of the tournament.
