The Attorney General’s Office of Baja California Sur (PGJE) announced that, due to the crime of aggravated kidnapping, they obtained guilty verdicts against the perpetrators of the criminal act against a foreigner. These individuals will soon learn the penalty imposed by the judicial authority for the events that occurred in October 2022.

In the oral trial held on Monday, July 15, the PGJE successfully secured a conviction from the Trial Court against three men who were found guilty of aggravated kidnapping. The crime took place on October 25, 2022, in Loreto.

The agents of the Public Prosecutor’s Office in charge of investigating and prosecuting crimes related to forced disappearance of persons, disappearance committed by private individuals, and related offenses provided the necessary evidence to the judicial authority for the conviction of Esteban “N,” Lisandro “N,” and Fernando “N.”

On Thursday, August 8, the sentencing hearing will take place, during which the three convicted individuals will learn the number of years they will spend in prison, as well as the economic compensation owed to the victim.

According to the investigation file, on the morning of October 25, 2022, the suspects arrived at El Juncalito beach, threatened the male victim inside his vehicle, forced him to exit the car, and tied his hands. They then transported him in his own vehicle to a residence in Villa Ignacio Zaragoza.

The perpetrators obtained information from the victim’s bank cards and, a couple of days later, took him to kilometer 70 + 200 on the Insurgentes-Loreto highway. They entered the wilderness and beat him to death. His body was found at the location.

It is worth mentioning that in November 2022, Baja California Sur Governor Víctor Castro Cosío contradicted the PGJE’s statement, denying any knowledge of cases involving foreigners losing their lives in the region. He asserted that the body found in Loreto was not related to a kidnapping.
