Baja California Sur launches discount program on licenses and fines

The Baja California Sur government announced a decree that seeks to facilitate vehicle regularization through discounts on licenses, registration, and debt forgiveness. With this measure, the state administration aims to alleviate family finances and promote timely completion of procedures.

It is estimated that more than 500,000 car owners in the state will be able to benefit from this program, considered one of the most comprehensive vehicle control programs in recent years. The strategy will remain in effect until the end of 2025, providing sufficient time to take advantage of the support.

Scope of the decree in Baja California Sur

The decree provides direct benefits for key procedures.

Those who renew their driver’s, motorcyclist’s, or driver’s licenses will receive a 50% discount.
Drivers applying for the first time will receive a 40% discount, provided they present the certificate issued by the municipal highway authority.
Vehicle registration will benefit from a 20% discount.
Another relevant point is the waiver of fines and surcharges associated with vehicle registration. For debts prior to 2020, the exemption is 100%, while for the periods from 2021 to 2025, surcharges are eliminated, and only the corresponding fee must be paid.

Economic Benefits for Citizens

The Ministry of Finance emphasized that these benefits represent a financial relief for South California families, as they significantly reduce the expenses associated with driving and owning a vehicle. These benefits aim to help more citizens catch up without significantly affecting their pocketbooks.

Requirements and points of attention to access the benefit

Payments can be made at any of the collection offices located throughout the state or through the Ministry of Finance’s official website.

For new licenses, it is mandatory to present the certificate from the municipal highway authority. Vehicle Control Coordinator David Guzmán Agúndez urged citizens to check the status of their applications and take advantage of the opportunity before the December 31, 2025, deadline.
