Despite the recent criminal acts reported in Baja California Sur, the tourism sector has not been affected, according to statements by Agustín Olachea, president of the Association of Hotel and Tourism Companies (Emprhotur). In an interview, Olachea assured that tourism activity in the state continues normally and without negative impacts.

“I would like to add that these situations, criminal acts that have occurred in the state, have not affected any tourist area or area where tourists congregate, much less any tourists,” he explained.

It is important to highlight the shootings and bodies found dead in the state, mainly in the municipalities of Comondú and Mulegé, where a woman and a minor were recently injured by gunshots.

The businessman explained that the incidents have not received national and international media coverage, which has helped preserve the destination’s image. “Our situation prevails in the state; it hasn’t reached the national and international media, to begin with,” he stated.

He also highlighted the strength of tourism in Baja California Sur, noting that its strength has allowed it to remain stable despite adverse circumstances. “Our tourism in the state is so strong that it has not yet been affected by these situations that have occurred in recent months,” he added.

Finally, he called for maintaining the climate of peace and tranquility that characterizes Baja California Sur, in order to prevent the situation from worsening and impacting tourism. The sector’s expectation is to continue with a stable and uneventful season.
