The whale shark swimming season will begin in mid-November 2025, an activity that maritime service providers say is an unforgettable and safe experience that attracts more tourists.

Companies like Cabo Adventures offer this activity at a cost of more than 3,000 pesos per person over the age of 8. They must depart from the Cabo San Lucas district, as swimming with whale sharks is only available in La Paz Bay.

The tour lasts 10 hours, including the ground transportation from Cabo San Lucas to the city of La Paz, with an all-inclusive package, including food, drinks, and the boat ride to the whale shark sighting area and swimming with the marine species. If the activity is purchased directly from companies in La Paz, the cost can range from 1,600 to 1,800 pesos.

Tourism service providers recommend always maintaining a safe distance and respecting operating rules to ensure the well-being of these specimens, as essential for continuing to enjoy this attraction for many years.

During the Second International Whale Shark Conference, which brought together more than 40 countries, August 30th was established as International Whale Shark Day in 2008 to promote the conservation of the world’s largest fish.

This marine animal can grow to 15 to 18 meters long and weigh 34 tons, according to the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat). It is listed in the country as an endangered species under NOM-059-SEMARNAT-2010.

This shark’s diet primarily includes plankton (tiny organisms, both animal and plant), which are captured in large quantities by filtering seawater through its gills.

Maritime service providers indicate that with luck, you can see one or two of these specimens a year off the coast of Los Cabos when you take a trip out to sea.
