If you’ve ever wondered how easy or difficult it is to buy a house online, yes, one of those advertised and sold on various platforms. Well, a woman living in La Paz bought one and shares her experience with those who don’t want a traditional home.

Karla Miller, a Mexican resident of La Paz, Baja California Sur, took the plunge and bought a prefabricated house on Alibaba and shared her experience on her TikTok channel. Prices for these homes range from one hundred thirty-three thousand pesos to six hundred fifteen thousand, well, that doesn’t include shipping costs.

Throughout several posts on TikTok, Karla shows everything from how to prepare the land where the house will be located, how her “package arrives in a simple trailer,” to the various stages of assembling her home.

Karla points out that in addition to the cost of the house, there are other costs that must be taken into account. These include hiring a customs broker for import procedures and cranes (at least two) to lower the package from the trailer, as well as machinery to install the roof and other heavy pieces that need to be lifted, and of course, the cost of the land and utilities such as water, drainage, and electricity.

Regarding the roof, Karla comments that it is one of the most important stages and that she had to hire machinery to install it and ensure it is level. “Be very careful with this step.”

The model of the house Karen purchased arrives in a 40-foot-long (12.192 meters) container weighing 7.5 tons. During the videos, she provides other details about both the installation and the house’s features, such as the finishes it comes with and some additional details that can be requested at the time of purchase.

Prices vary, not only depending on the model but also on the destination, the size of the house, and other features. A 25% payment is due upon ordering, with the remainder due when the house is ready for shipping.
