In an interview with Pamela Cerdeira for MVS Noticias, Ligia Romero, head of MVS Noticias in Los Cabos, mentioned that 128 clandestine graves have been discovered in Baja California Sur.

In recent years, the problem of disappearances in Baja California Sur has reached alarming proportions. With 1,061 missing persons recorded in the last five years and a significant increase in clandestine graves, Baja California residents face a bleak outlook.

Discovery of Graves in the Last 5 Years

The State Commission for the Search for Persons has documented a growing number of clandestine graves in the region, totaling 128 discoveries in the last five years. This number has been increasing, jumping from 45 in the first three years to 83 in the last year and a half, representing an increase of more than 84%. “This really raises red flags,” commented Lisette Collins, head of the commission.

The state capital, La Paz, has been identified as the municipality with the highest number of discoveries. Collins emphasized that “in the last year, 64 graves have been located, especially in the vicinity of San Juan de la Costa.” Meanwhile, the wave of insecurity also affects towns such as Loreto and Comondú, where community concern is palpable.

The number of missing persons is not only alarming but also growing. Antonio López Rodríguez, head of the State Attorney General’s Office, reported that “out of a total of 68 missing persons, we have identified 22 remains in clandestine graves.”

However, with an average of 500 disappearances per year, López Rodríguez acknowledged that “the process has been complex and the authorities are not letting their guard down.”

As searches intensify, fear persists. More than 1,800 people have been located, but 1,061 remain missing, mostly young people who have not been found.

The situation in Baja California Sur raises questions about security and the search for justice in a state facing a crisis of disappearances. The question of how authorities will respond to this growing social concern remains.
