During the commemoration of the four years of the Transformation underway in Baja California Sur, Governor Víctor Castro Cosío issued a direct message against the violence that has occurred in recent months.

He pointed out that there are groups that, “in a miserable manner,” are attacking youth and the entire population of South California for easy money.

What did the governor say about the wave of violence in the state?

During his speech, the state governor acknowledged that violence and drug trafficking have been among the toughest and most painful problems South Californians have faced.

He also assured that his government will continue to fight “resolutely” to end what he described as a “detestable issue” that has generated unrest in various communities and left a trail of drugs that particularly affects youth.

We will continue to fight resolutely to put an end to this detestable issue that has brought unrest to our people and has filled many communities with drugs.

Castro Cosío reiterated that he will maintain a joint effort with federal forces and all social sectors to restore peace.

Previously, the State Attorney General’s Office (PGJE) declared that it is keeping several lines of investigation open after the attack on an official in Los Cabos.

How did BCS close out the month of August?

Castro Cosío affirmed that he is following the example of Andrés Manuel López Obrador, whom he described as a man who never gave up in the face of threats from those who only brought misfortune to the people.

He also said he has the support of President Claudia Sheinbaum to face the challenges of violence in Baja California Sur.

In August 2025, the state closed the month with 16 arrests and 11 weapons seized, in addition to several cases linked to organized crime.

During that same month, federal convictions were handed down: seven sentences for nine people for crimes such as drug trafficking and violations of the Weapons and Explosives Law, with sentences ranging from three to six years.

Thirty-two people were also charged in 15 investigation files related to drugs, weapons, environmental, and property crimes.

In September, three people were arrested a few days ago after a confrontation in Loreto.

What was the most recent violent incident in Baja California Sur?

The most recent violent incident in Baja California Sur was in Comondú, where an armed attack left a man and a child injured.

This occurred in Ciudad Constitución on the afternoon of Tuesday, September 9, in the Los Pinos neighborhood, when gunshots were reported around 6:35 p.m.

Reports indicated that the shots came from Cuauhtémoc and Mariano Matamoros streets. Upon arriving at the scene, security officers spotted a gray Honda vehicle with bullet holes.
