With the signing of an agreement between SCORE International and the city council, it was officially announced that the 59th edition of the SCORE Baja 1000, scheduled for November 2026, will have its start and finish in Los Cabos for the first time in history.

The event was led by Juan Benjamín Tintos Funke, general manager of SCORE International, and José Abelardo Grijalva Carranza, the institution’s legal representative, along with Mayor Cristian Agúndez Gómez of Cabo.

The most iconic off-road race in the world will take place on November 13, 2026, but pre-race routes for riders will open on October 31, 2026.

The official route will start in San José del Cabo and end at the same point, with an estimated distance of between 800 and 900 miles yet to be determined.

The motorcycles will start in the early morning and the cars hours later, in what promises to be an unprecedented sporting spectacle.

Economic and Tourism Impact

Authorities and organizers emphasized that the economic impact will be in the millions of dollars, with a direct impact on Los Cabos and the other municipalities of La Paz, Loreto, Mulegé, and Comondú.

Hotels, restaurants, supermarkets, convenience stores, and transportation services are already beginning to receive reservations from the teams participating in the event, stated the mayor of Los Cabos.

Additionally, extensive hiring of local personnel is expected in areas such as mechanics, security, logistics, and hospitality.

Agundez emphasized that the municipality is ready to guarantee security, civil protection, and media coverage of the event.

“It is a historic and momentous event that puts Los Cabos in the eyes of the world,” he expressed.

International Reflection

The SCORE Baja 1000 has more than five decades of history and has been classified as the most important off-road competition on the planet, attracting IndyCar, NASCAR, Formula 1, and Dakar Rally drivers.

In addition to the competition, SCORE promotes Mexico and Baja California Sur through live broadcasts, digital magazines, and documentaries such as “Surviving Baja,” viewed by millions on global platforms.

Local Participation and Categories

The organizers announced that they will encourage the participation of South Californian drivers and seek to revive traditional categories such as Class 9, Class 16, and 7SX, in addition to high-performance categories. The official call for entries will be published in January 2026.

City hall representatives described the signing of the agreement as a historic event that reflects the pride of South Californians and the consolidation of the state as a sports tourism destination.

The 59th edition of the SCORE Baja 1000, according to the mayor, will not only be a race, but a global showcase of culture, tourism, and sports that will mark a turning point in the history of Baja California Sur.
