With the collaboration of citizens who help care for and preserve sea turtles by promptly notifying authorities, a nest containing 137 eggs was rescued on El Corsario beach in Cabo San Lucas.

To protect the nest, personnel from the coordination committee comprised of the Participatory Environmental Surveillance Committee of the Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection (PROFEPA) arrived at the scene, accompanied by Public Security personnel and inspectors from the Federal Maritime-Terrestrial Zone (ZOFEMAT) in Los Cabos.

The presence of sea turtles can be reported to the 911 emergency line.

Biologist Gabriel Olvera Guevara, coordinator of the Sea Turtle Protection Program, announced that they were notified of the presence of the turtle on the 24th of this month, around 5:00 PM, and proceeded to appear, accompanied by authorities, to collect the eggs and take them to the incubation area.

He added that after laying eggs, the turtle moved in the opposite direction to the water, so it was carefully assisted to return to its natural habitat.

He also emphasized the importance of citizen cooperation, reporting to the authorities whenever they see a turtle coming onto the beach to lay its eggs in the area.

“With everyone’s help, we can continue to preserve the sea turtle that emerges each season to continue its life cycle on the beaches of Los Cabos,” said Gabriel Olvera, head of the Sea Turtle Protection Program.

Members of the Federal Maritime-Terrestrial Zone indicate that they remain vigilant during their working hours while conducting patrols, either cleaning or monitoring the maritime zone.
