The Los Cabos Hotel Association held a meeting with the Overseas Security Advisory Council (OSAC) and representatives of the U.S. Consulate General in Tijuana to review and strengthen tourism security protocols, particularly those related to hurricane season.
During the meeting, progress was made on protection plans for American tourists, who represent between 60% and 70% of visitors to the destination each year.
Consular authorities highlighted their interest in learning about the protocols implemented by private sector organizations during meteorological events. For its part, the hotel industry emphasized that visitor safety is a priority and that there is close coordination with government agencies through the association’s Security Committee.
“We had the opportunity to share general statistics about the destination. It is very important for the Consulate to learn about the security measures implemented by private sector organizations,” explained Lilzi Orcí Fregoso, president of the Los Cabos Hotel Association.
The association’s efforts include ongoing training and certifications that have helped position Los Cabos as a safe, reliable, and competitive tourist destination, especially for travelers from states like California and Texas.
The collaboration between the tourism sector and the U.S. government, through OSAC, allows for the establishment of emergency response mechanisms, strengthening the perception of security, and ensuring a positive experience for international visitors.
