The low season in the municipality of Los Cabos is already being felt with a reduction in tourist demand in various sectors, including the cruise industry. It is estimated that during this period, which runs from the end of July to mid-October, the number of arrivals will drop by up to 90 percent.
The president of the Mexican Cruise Association, Arturo Mussi Ganem, explained that there is currently a low flow of cruise ship arrivals on the Pacific route, especially in Cabo San Lucas, because colder destinations are more attractive this season.

“We have two from the same company, Carnival, one every two weeks; if we combined them, it would almost be one per week. There are very few, it’s always been like this, and it’s because in the summer season the destinations that sell are those with very harsh winters, for example, Alaska, which is in this area, so the arrivals and ships go north.”
Cruise Ship Decline
The cruise industry representative argued that, although arrivals decrease drastically in the summer, fortunately the dynamics have changed over time and now, although they are few, they do arrive at the destination.

“A huge reduction, almost 90 percent. What we’ve seen is that before, a long time ago, ships only came for six months, and during the summer season we didn’t have any cruise ships at all. Now there are cruise lines like Carnival that are arriving year-round, so that’s an advantage.”
According to statistics from Mexico’s official tourism information platform, Datatur, during the first five months of 2026, the port of Cabo San Lucas received a total of 184 cruise ships with a total of 697,234 passengers, making it the largest port of arrival in Baja California Sur and the Mexican Pacific.
