TOPOLOBAMPO, Sinaloa — Traveling between Sinaloa and Baja California Sur remains a popular choice for summer vacationers crossing the Gulf of California. The overnight ferry route operated by Baja Ferries, connecting Topolobampo to La Paz, provides a key link for both commercial transport and tourism.
The sea crossing offers regular departures throughout the week. From Monday through Friday, the ferry departs at 11:59 p.m., arriving in La Paz at approximately 9:00 a.m. the following morning. Passengers traveling without vehicles must check in at 9:30 p.m., while those bringing vehicles are required to begin registration at 9:00 p.m.
No departures are scheduled on Saturdays. On Sundays, the ferry leaves slightly earlier at 11:00 p.m., maintaining the same 9:00 a.m. arrival time in La Paz next morning. Check-in times on Sundays remain 9:00 p.m. for vehicle drivers and 9:30 p.m. for foot passengers.
Standard adult fares for the crossing are set at 1,850 Mexican pesos. Children between 3 and 11 years old, as well as senior citizens over 60, qualify for a reduced rate of 925 pesos. Children aged two and under travel free of charge.
For travelers seeking additional comfort during the overnight journey, private cabin accommodations are available for 2,400 pesos. Each cabin accommodates up to four passengers and includes two bunk beds, satellite television, and a private full bathroom.
Beyond serving as a transport route, the voyage through the Gulf of California—often called the Sea of Cortez—allows passengers to view coastal sunsets and marine life, including dolphins that frequently swim alongside the vessel.
Due to increased demand during peak summer travel periods, port authorities and Baja Ferries advise passengers to book tickets well in advance and arrive at the port early to ensure smooth check-in and boarding.
