The letters of La Paz del Jardín Velasco are the meeting point for local, national and international tourists.
The Historic Center of La Paz is one of the most beautiful and emblematic places in the Southern California capital, which has art, culture and history to its credit, since in its glory years it was the center of the economy in our state.
Given this, the Group of Merchants of the Historic Center of La Paz began to have the idea of carrying out a project that would encompass the creation of the letters of La Paz, but this time different and unique, than what had already been seen at the national level.
Recycling materials would be used, all of this long before the letters of La Paz were placed on the boardwalk in 2016. Rafael Luque, a merchant and part of the group, tells us the true story:
He comments that since the letters of La Paz were placed on the boardwalk, he started the project again, creating the design himself and the artist in charge of painting them was Alfredo “El Dark”, who highlighted the beauty of the letters with different representations of the ground, who asked, what was the main idea and this is how the cardón, the seagulls, the cave paintings, the boardwalk, the fish and the turtles were born, since the most important thing was to give identity to each of the letters that make up La Paz.
From the beginning, the Group of Merchants of the Historic Center of La Paz thought that the ideal place where these letters had to be was the Velasco Garden, therefore, in 2020, in the middle of the pandemic, they made their appearance, causing great commotion and even some controversy, since some authorities from past administrations considered them “ugly.”
When the International Volleyball Tournament arrived in La Paz, it requested that the Velasco Garden letters be present at said event. They were taken to appear on international broadcasts, they also made an appearance at the Convention Center at the Congress of Municipal Presidents.
In addition, a special report was made for German television, where the tenants were interviewed, without leaving behind the famous actor and Oscar winner Harrison Ford, who took photos and videos that he uploaded to his social networks when he was on vacation in the city.
Rafael Luque highlights the importance of the creation of the letters of La Paz del Jardín Velasco, since it is a grain of sand to continue beautifying the Historic Center and although a few months after being placed they were removed by the previous administration of the municipality.
Due to efforts made by the Group of Merchants of the Historic Center of La Paz with Mayor Milena Quiroga, they returned to their place of origin, being inaugurated again with fanfare, although with all the corresponding permits so that they are not removed.
Currently, the letters of La Paz del Jardín Velasco are the meeting point for national and international tourists, who come to take a photograph to remember their stay at the famous Puerto de Ilusión.
