There will build a market for indigenous and Afro-Mexican merchants in La Paz

The market will have a regulation to establish operating rules; it will be located in the El Esterito neighborhood

This Monday, February 19, the construction of the Ethnic Market Yeéy was confirmed, during the fourth session of the Indigenous and Afro-Mexican Council of La Paz, for which an investment of 10 million pesos was approved; it will activate the economy of these ethnic groups, as well as being a tourist attraction, they say.

This was reported by the general secretary of the City Council of La Paz, Pavel Castro Ríos, who assured that the financing of this project comes from the Fund for Contributions for Municipal Strengthening (Fortamun) and, later, they will start with the process of planning, programming and public bidding of the work to build the market, which will be located in the El Esterito neighborhood.

Meanwhile, the director of Indigenous and Afro-Mexican Affairs, Concepción Salazar Reyes, noted that the market will have gastronomy, handicrafts and various products of interest for residents and tourists.

“We will have our own place, which will be ours, and I say ours, because I am part of the community, it is something that will benefit us, it will allow us to show our products to the population and visitors”, she said.

For her part, the director General of Inclusion and Diversity, Amor Fenech Montaño, commented that they will work on a regulation to organize each merchant, when the operation of the market begins.

“A regulation will be worked on, not only for those who will have a space, but also to organize themselves once the operation of this market begins. It is important to know how we are going to be responsible for issues such as water, electricity, among many others; we have to see how we are going to organize ourselves, from hours of use and if there will be a Committee for managing the premises”, she said.

It is important to mention that, the executive project of the market was carried out by Urbanería AC, and includes an amphitheater, 30 premises for food and handicrafts, dining room, toilets, warehouse and dressing room.
