Despite a 3% drop in hotel occupancy, Los Cabos is above Cancun

The tourist occupancy of Los Cabos fell by 3 percent during July of this year compared to the same month but in 2023, however, the numbers were good enough to position itself as the beach destination with the highest occupancy in Mexico in recent weeks, even above Cancun, Quintana Roo.

The president of the Los Cabos Hotel Association, Lilzi Orcí, announced that, despite the fact that there are months where the variation in hotel occupancy is two percentage points up or down, the numbers have managed to stay on par with 2023, and the well-known “low season” has been seen with solid numbers.

According to the monitoring of the occupancy of 12 destinations in Mexico by the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur), during the month of July Los Cabos was up to four percentage points above its main competition as a tourist destination, Cancun.

“The truth is that this is something gratifying and very big for Los Cabos because although we are always in the top three places, between Cancun and Puerto Vallarta, it seems to me that this is the first time that we have a higher occupancy rate than Cancun, so this speaks very well of what is being done in the destination and how we are doing in Los Cabos.”

With the challenges that remain pending for the rest of the year for the tourist destination, such as the most critical stage of the hurricane season in the Pacific Ocean and the elections in the United States, the promotional strategies of Los Cabos are focused on attracting tourism with greater purchasing power to avoid overcrowding the destination and have a greater economic impact.
