The state government rejected reports suggesting a drop in tourist arrivals to Baja California Sur and, on the contrary, asserted that the tourism sector is experiencing a period of solid and sustained growth, particularly in the state capital.
According to data from the Pacific Airport Group (GAP), La Paz registered a 9.8% increase in passenger arrivals during July, reaching a total of 64,450 visitors, compared to the 58,700 recorded in the same month in 2024.
In response to social media posts warning of a potential crisis in tourism, the head of the Ministry of Tourism and Economy (SETUE), Maribel Collins Sánchez, denied these claims.
“These data are proof that tourism in the state is growing stronger every day, with responsible strategies, effective promotion, and a vision that puts communities at the center,” the official stated.
Collins also highlighted the role of collaboration between government and private sector, as well as tourism trusts, as key factors in helping La Paz continue to consolidate itself as a competitive and sustainable destination.
Between January and July 2025, Baja California Sur grew from 341,500 to 377,650 visitors, representing an overall 10.6% increase in tourist arrivals by air. This trend, authorities stated, is due to a tourism policy focused on social well-being, environmental balance, and local economic strengthening.
