Los Cabos is positioned as an attractive tourist destination during the 2026 World Cup, offering visitors the opportunity to explore its charms after enjoying the matches in Mexico and the United States

During the recent IMEX fair in Frankfurt, Germany, the Los Cabos Tourism Trust (FITURCA) had an outstanding participation. In this event, 450 business appointments were made with the aim of expanding direct routes with European countries.

In 2026, Mexico will host one of the most important sporting events on the planet: the World Cup. This edition will be shared with the United States and Canada, the country’s main trading partners.

Surprisingly, event and incentive organizers are considering including Los Cabos as part of the itinerary for the World Cup. The idea is that, after enjoying a few games in Mexico or the United States, visitors will have the opportunity to explore one of the most iconic destinations in Baja California Sur. This was pointed out by Rodrigo Esponda, director of FITURCA.

“We were attending a fair based on events, conventions and incentives; in which event planners and conventions from all over the world attend. It was very interesting; To our surprise, they always come with business proposals for a year or two, but this time they came with proposals related to the World Cup.

Just as they hear it for the World Cup, which is three years in advance, where incentive program companies are already looking for travel extensions. Obviously there is no better gift than a trip to the World Cup with an extension to the beach”.

Currently, Los Cabos has extensive air connectivity, offering 27 direct flights to different destinations in the United States. Among these destinations, Los Angeles and Dallas stand out as the main generators of tourists to the region.

According to Rodrigo Esponda, director of the Los Cabos Tourism Trust (FITURCA), the main objective of the groups of travelers is to attend the games that will take place in the United States during the World Cup. Later, they plan to make a stopover in Los Cabos to enjoy the high-quality services that this tourist destination offers.

“As you know the World Cup is going to be shared with the United States and Canada, to our surprise it is not that they are extending their trip to attend the World Cup in Mexico City, but after attending some of the matches in the United States, as extension of coming to Los Cabos, we already have several business proposals with quotes, which is very positive”.

The president of the Mexican Football Federation, Yon de Luisa, has indicated that the 2026 World Cup is expected to generate an economic benefit of 500 million dollars in Mexico. This figure demonstrates the positive impact that this sporting event will have on the country’s economy.

Although FITURCA did not provide specific details on the number of tourists and groups that will arrive in Los Cabos due to the World Cup, they stressed that they are making preparations to receive this significant number of visitors. The tourist infrastructure of Los Cabos is ready to provide quality services and offer an unforgettable experience to travelers who choose this destination as part of their World Cup experience.
