Actions to mitigate illegal fishing in Los Cabos are reinforced

Los Cabos, Baja California Sur.- The mayor of Los Cabos, Oscar Leggs Castro, met with producers who are part of the advisory body of the Executive Committee, where the delivery of 7 motors to the cooperatives that comprise it was announced.

In the fourth session of the Municipal Subcommittee on Fishing and Aquaculture, it was also agreed to fulfill other commitments with that sector before the end of the XIV administration.

“We know the importance that the fishing sector represents in the municipality, therefore, as municipal president of the government of Los Cabos and member of the Municipal Subcommittee on Fishing and Aquaculture, we will soon deliver 7 motors to each cooperative with the objective of supporting the members of the group and that they continue developing this primary activity, in addition to it being an economic incentive that will help them get ahead and continue with this legacy that is from generation to generation,” said the municipal president of Los Cabos Oscar Leggs Castro.

At the meeting, members of the Municipal Subcommittee on Fishing and Aquaculture of the Municipality of Los Cabos, expressed to the authorities of the Secretariat of Fishing, Aquaculture and Agricultural Development (Sepada) and the National Commission of Aquaculture and Fishing (Conapesca), the prevailing problem of illegal fishing.

The objective is to organize and implement programs and a reliable registry of the permits that are granted for the identification and registration of the users who are dedicated to this noble activity.

Finally, the municipal president Oscar Leggs Castro, promised to make a tour of the beach to verify in case there are irregularities, he also promised the fishermen to pay the water bills until this service is regularized with the cooperatives.

In the low season, temporary employment will be provided from August to September, and food supplies will be delivered to the members of the cooperatives belonging to the Municipal Subcommittee on Fishing and Aquaculture of the Municipality of Los Cabos.
