Baja California Sur is the second state with the most cell phone use in all of Mexico.

As of last year, Baja California Sur is the Mexican state with the second highest percentage of cell phone users, with 89.2%, after the neighboring state of Baja California with 89.4% and before Mexico City with 88.3%. According to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), 89% of Southern Californians use smartphones for their daily activities.

In contrast, the states with the lowest cell phone use in Mexico are Guerrero with 74.5%, Oaxaca with 70.8%, and Chiapas with 63.8%. In Mexico, a total of 97.2 million people use cell phones; in Baja California Sur, 723,029 women and men use them.

Entertainment is the primary use of cell phones, according to the survey conducted by 595,243 South Californians. Meanwhile, 340,932 people responded that they use them for work activities, 165,215 for schoolwork, and 121,008 for independent training.

136,104 mobile phone users use them for gaming; 135,206 for audio and video access; 114,163 for social media; 102,462 for purchasing goods and services; 86,853 for mobile banking; 76,674 for editing photos or videos; and 20,710 for using other applications.

The most commonly used type of device is the smartphone, with 693,761 users. Meanwhile, 28,719 use a regular cell phone and 549 use both types of phones. 702,302 people use them to communicate with others, 244,254 use them to buy, and 67,244 use them to sell online.

362,615 are men, while 360,414 of these users are women. 620,653 have internet access through their cell phone, and 56,757 do not. 386,760 use prepaid packages, 156,315 use rate plans, 3,388 recharge, and 28,593 don’t know. Regarding cell phone use, 672,048 people use it daily, 38,740 at least once a week, and 7,477 at least once a month.

In the state, the vast majority of cell phone users are in high school or college, totaling 382,820. Meanwhile, 475,262 economically active South Californians use a cell phone, while 174,446 are economically inactive.
