Early Wednesday morning, an entire family was killed in the municipality of Loreto, Baja California Sur. Unofficial reports indicate that an armed man broke into the home and murdered the family members, including a minor.
Hours after the attack, Antonio López Rodríguez, Attorney General of Baja California Sur, confirmed that the first attack occurred at 7:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 19, against a family resting at home.
Criminal Investigation Agents from the Attorney General’s Office entered the residence located on Tenth Street between Honduras and Nicaragua Streets in the Miramar neighborhood.
“In a back room, the lifeless body of a woman was found lying face down, wearing a black blouse and blue denim shorts. A man was also found on the bed, lying on his left side, wearing only black pants.”
“In the next room, a man was found lying face up on the floor, wearing only pants. Finally, another person, a minor approximately 10 years old, was found on the bed, also covered with a blue blanket,” the Attorney General commented.
The first responder reported that spent shell casings, apparently from a handgun and presumed to be 9mm caliber, were found at the residence and the scene of the attack.
The second, almost simultaneous, incident occurred at a residence in the Acueducto neighborhood, where two civilians, a man and a woman, were found dead.
“A person was found lying on the ground in the yard of the property, a deceased male, and inside, a deceased female was also found, also with injuries apparently caused by gunfire,” reported Antonio López.
Who is behind the attack?
According to the State Attorney General’s Office, the main line of investigation indicates that two factions of the Sinaloa Cartel (CDS) are vying for control of the territory in the state, and this massacre is believed to be linked to the war between the two groups.
On November 11, MIELNIO Television interviewed Attorney General Antonio López Rodríguez, who emphasized that following the arrest of Luis Alberto Muñoz Robles, known as “El Motoratón,” the alleged leader of a criminal cell and designated by the Security Council as a “high-priority target” due to his role in generating violence, he asserted that violence in the state had decreased.
The last reported incident was on November 5 of this year, when one man was killed and another wounded in a shootout in Loreto. This occurred 16 days after the last violent event in the community.
This violent attack has once again raised concerns among the population, which had been characterized as the most peaceful municipality in Baja California Sur. Citizens demand justice, firm measures to stop the advance of violence, and strengthened security in the area.
